ABOUT

LETTER from the PRESIDENT
APRIL 2025
On behalf of the AHA Board, we welcome all of you back and look forward to a wonderful summer! This letter, I hope, will be informative relating to our neighborhood as well as the Town of Westerly.

First, our thanks to all the friends and neighbors, who so warmly and graciously have given meals and encouraged well wishes to Bill and Kathy McKendree. It speaks volumes of our concern for our neighbors and brings blue sky to those in need.

I have contacted Shawn Lacy , Town Manager of Westerly and Paul Gingerella, Chief of Police for Westerly. Fortunately, all seems quiet and safe with a reminder to lock car and home doors.

As some if you may be aware, The Cooked Goose sustained major fire damage and will not be open until next fall. The “Lotteryville” Marina has built a beautiful handmade stone wall and continues to make improvements in the marina. The Cove Marina is also replacing much of its decking to improve safety and convenience. The Westerly Museum of American Impressionism is nearing completion and a special thank you to the Sculco family for bringing this important museum for all to admire throughout the entire Northeast. This museum will be a cultural and iconic museum for all ages. I will let you know when the opening will be.

I have asked several Board Members to assume some new responsibilities in order for our Board to reply to specific questions and concerns.

Jack Schmitt - Secretary …communication and legal issues
Tom Malone - Treasurer and Dues Chairman
Talley Ackerman - Annual Meeting Coordinator
Buff Penrose - Johnnycake annual drive
Laurel Ennis - liaison with Chapel and horticultural issues
Fred Sculco - River and Environmental concerns
Diane Brink. - Conservation and wildlife issues
Toby Lloyd - Membership Chairman
John Townsend - Marina liaison
Kirk Materne - 4th of July Police Breakfast , liaison with Town Manager and Police Chief

We would also like all new residents to join us by reaching out to Toby (thomasblloyd@hotmail.com) or myself (skmaterne@gmail.com).
The Annual Meeting is scheduled for Sat July 12th, so please mark your calendars and join us.
We are fortunate to live in this wonderful neighborhood and hope that, if I, or others can offer assistance, you will reach out to us.

Happy Summer to all!
